Pipracillin 4 GM+ Tazobactum 500 MG
This antipseudomonal penicillin is about 8 times more active than carbenicillin. It has good activity against Klebsiella and is used mainly in neutropenic/ immunocompromised patients having serious gram negative infections and in burns.
Pre Operative, gynaecological infections, urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, burns, septicaemia, systemic & local infections.
Hypersensitivity.
Renal or hepatic insufficiency, high dose, prolonged use.
Platelet function disturbed cause bleeding, local pain, superinfections.
Efficiency of aminoglycosides decreased, muscle relaxant action of vecuronium increased.
Adults 6-8 gm per day IU/IM severe and complicated infections: 112-18 gm per day.
Children: 25-75 / kg iv/im upto 6 hrs.
Tazobactam inhibits beta lactamases. So the combination has broader spectrum of activity.
Appendicitis (complicated by rupture or abscess) and peritonitis, uncomplicated and complicated skin and structure infections, postpartum endometritis or pelvic inflammatory disease, community acquired pneumonia (moderate severity only), nosocomial pneumonia.
Hypersensitivity.
General: Rigors, back pain, malaise, (astenia, chest pain)
Creatinine clearance (ml/min) :20-80: 12g/1.5g/ day in divided doses of 4.5 g every 8 hours.
Less than 20; 8g/1g/day in divided doses of 4.5 g every 12 hours.
