This medicine is used for lowering bad cholesterol and improving good cholesterol in the bloodstream. It is from the statins group of drugs and reduces the harmful cholesterol made by the liver. By this act, it will also decrease the risk of heart disease and heart strokes. Additionally, proper diet and exercise may help this medication work well.

It belongs to a fibrates group of drugs which are used to lowering triglycerides and hence it can decrease the risk of pancreas disease.
